The brine tank holds the salt and makes the brine that recharges your softening resin during regeneration. A correctly sized tank with a working safety float and brine well keeps regenerations consistent and prevents overflows.

Choosing a brine tank

• 18x33 / 18x40 round — the standard for residential softeners; holds 200–300+ lbs of salt.
• Square tanks — fit tight utility spaces and store more salt.
• Grid (salt) plates — keep salt off the tank floor for cleaner brining on high-iron water.

A complete brine tank uses a brine well (houses the float), a safety float / brine valve (stops overfill), and the air-check & fittings. We stock these individually so you can repair an overflowing or under-brining tank without replacing the whole unit. See related control valve parts.

Why is my brine tank overflowing? Usually a stuck safety float or brine valve — both are inexpensive replacements. Round or square? Round is standard; choose square for higher salt capacity in a smaller footprint.
