Whole House Water Enhancers & Neutralizers

Recommended to enhance pH & alkalinity in low PH and/or acidic water

Acidity (Low PH)

Water with a low pH can be acidic, soft, and corrosive. Acidic waters are often used for drinking & household use because they are odorless and almost tasteless, however, they are low in buffering calcium minerals and contain dissolved carbon-dioxide gas, which can cause a low pH and acid condition in the body. Signs of acid water are corrosion of fixtures, pinhole leaks in plumbing, and blue staining (from copper pipes) or rust staining (from iron pipes). This water can leach metals such as copper, iron, lead, manganese, and zinc. It not only causes damage to hardware, but causes other problems like the taste (such as a metallic or sour taste), and aesthetics (such as laundry staining). Acidity cannot be removed completely from water, however, it can be neutralized by raising the pH with alkalinity. Treat the problem of acidic, low pH drinking water with a neutralizer.

Alkalinity (High pH)

Alkalinity is a measure of the capacity of water to neutralize acids. Alkalinity is primarily due to the presence of bicarbonate, carbonate, and hydroxide ions. Alkalinity acts as a pH buffer to deactivate acidity. Water with high alkalinity may have an offensive taste. These filters are tanks filled with a media blend of calcium and magnesium carbonates made from naturally occurring minerals. This media slowly dissolves into the water, raising the pH and making it less corrosive. One of the most important benefits of alkaline water (besides increasing the pH) is that it lowers Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP).

COROSEX FLOMAG MAGNESIUM OXIDE

A typical 1.0 cubic foot may use 90 lbs of calcite of Corosex. By neutralizing the free carbon dioxide in water, Corosex can correct acidic water conditions and render it less corrosive. Corosex, being a highly reactive magnesium oxide, is used most effectively where pH correction is substantial or high flow conditions are in use.

Media consumption and pH correction are affected by a number of water chemical variables. Being soluble to acidity, Corosex will slowly dissolve and will need to be replenished periodically. On a per weight basis, magnesium oxide can neutralize much more acidity than can calcium carbonate, (five times as much). This results in greatly reduced chemical usage for the same pH correction. Please note, under certain low flow conditions, Corosex may over-correct and create a highly basic (high pH) condition. Under certain hardness conditions, pH correction can cause hardness mineralsto precipitate out of solution, resulting in cementing or solidification of the Corosex mineral bed.

Nelsen Signature Series pH neutralizer systems employ the proper mixture of clacite and corosex for optimum pH adjustment of water. pH levels as low 5.4 can be raised to near neutral equalibrium and reduce accelerated corrosion rates of your home piping. Reduces blue green staining of fixtures as well. Only requires periodic backwash to reclassify the media bed for optimal flow rates. The sacrificial media can simply be replenished when depleted. Dome hole tank is standard so you will not need to remove the control head to refill your media. Can be customized for optimal pH correction.

PH Neutralizer System Includes:

  •  timered backwash control valve
  • Slow dissolving neutralizing media
  • 3/4 inch or 1 inch bypass connections Included
  • Natural colored tank with easy refill port
  • Only requires periodic backwash
  • Media tank

Backwashing Filter with Calcite for pH Control

Aqua Blend (Filter Ag Calcite Birm and Corosex)  Backwashing filter with calcite is a pH-control system for municipal and well water supplies. Calcite is natural crystalline calcium carbonate. It is the main mineral component in limestone, chalk, and marble. For acidic water treatment, calcite is crushed and screened to create a loose media suitable for use in a backwash filter. The hard composition and irregular granular shape of the calcite particles provides an extensive surface area that reacts with the acidic water. Acids are neutralized by reacting with the carbonates in calcite. Calcite self-limits the pH increase, only raising the pH enough to overcome acidity. The granular calcite also traps suspended solids in the media bed and reduces turbidity. The calcite neutralization process adds some calcium hardness to the water. Therefore, calcite neutralization treatment should be applied ahead of water softening. Calcite will also reduce some ferric and ferrous iron in the water supply.

  • Neutralizes acidic water and adjust pH
  • Prevents damage to plumbing, boilers and manufacturing equipment
  • Stops lead, copper and iron leaching from pipes and solder
  • Eliminates blue, green and red stains in sinks, tubs and showers
  • Improves water clarity, removes tubidity
  • Uses natural calcite minerals

Acidic water causes problems with manufacturing processes, commercial food preparation, beverage formulation and leaching of lead and heavy metals like copper from pipes. For homeowners, building managers and health institutions, acid water causes blue and green staining in sinks, toilets and bathtubs due to copper leaching. Iron pipes will react with acid water and cause red stains. The metals also give the water a metallic taste. Residential and commercial laundries can experience fabric staining and customer complaints from acidic water. Corrosion of plastic PVC plumbing components is also possible resulting in the release of harmful amounts of vinyl chloride into drinking water. Acidic water also causes leaks in plumbing by slowly dissolving the inside of the pipes and fittings.

pH Neutralizers (Acid Neutralizing)

Each pH Neutralizer system (also referred to as Acid Filters) comes with the control valve, stainless steel by-pass (3/4" or 1"), all media, fill funnel, and cap.

The pH level of your water and the number of people in your household determine which blend of media and control valve will be used for your system.
