Autotrol valves are identified by a three-digit series number — 255, 263, 268 — usually paired with a controller number such as 460, 740 or 962. The pairing matters: the same valve body can be fitted with different controllers, and the replacement part you need often depends on the controller rather than the valve. The number is printed on a label on the controller cover and moulded into the valve body underneath.

The groups below are built from the model numbers that appear in each product's own name. Treat it as a way to narrow the field quickly rather than as a statement that any listed part fits every build of that model. Autotrol assemblies were supplied to a number of system builders who specified their own variations, so the safest check is always the part number on the component in your hand.

Common replacements on these valves are the seal and spacer stack, the piston, the injector assembly and the drive motor. On metered units the meter cap and its cable are a frequent failure point, and on timer-driven units the failure is usually the clock motor rather than anything hydraulic.

Ordering notes for Autotrol parts

Because the valve and the controller carry separate numbers, order electrical parts against the controller label and hydraulic parts against the valve body. Mixing the two is the most common cause of a returned part on this range. United States shipping is included in the prices listed.

What usually fails first

On timer-driven Autotrol units the clock motor is the usual culprit when regeneration stops, and it is a far cheaper repair than the complete controller that often gets ordered in its place. On metered units, suspect the meter cable and the meter cap before condemning the board. Seal and spacer stacks are wear items and are worth replacing as a set rather than individually, since a fresh seal against a worn spacer tends to leak again quickly.
