A Small Fitting With an Important Job

The OE05 Overflow Elbow is the fitting that creates the emergency overflow outlet on the side of a brine tank, built for a 1/2-inch connection. It threads or clips into the wall of the tank and gives excess water a controlled route to a nearby drain. In everyday use it does nothing at all, which is exactly the point. It sits quietly until the day something goes wrong upstream, and then it earns its keep by turning what could have been a flooded floor into a harmless trickle headed for the drain.

How It Protects Your Home

A water softener refills its brine tank with fresh water after every regeneration. If the fill valve hangs open, the float sticks, or the tank simply takes on more water than it should, the level begins to climb. The overflow elbow gives that rising water somewhere to go before it reaches the rim. Instead of spilling over the top and running across the utility room, the water exits through the elbow and follows the drain line you have connected. For a part this inexpensive, it prevents a genuinely costly and messy failure.

When to Replace It

The environment around a brine tank is humid and salty, and over the years that takes a toll on plastic fittings. An overflow elbow can crack, lose its seal against the tank wall, or break outright during a move or a service call. If you have spotted water weeping from the side of the tank near the overflow, or the fitting no longer holds its drain line securely, a fresh elbow restores that safe path and the peace of mind that goes with it.

Getting the Right Fit

Because overflow fittings mount to a specific opening and connect to a particular drain line, matching them to your tank is what makes the difference between a clean seal and a nagging drip. Tell us the brine tank you are fitting and the tubing you drain to, and we will help confirm this elbow is correct before you order. Every applicable part ships with the documentation we have on file, and the Water Softener Plus team is glad to walk you through seating the fitting and routing the overflow safely to the drain.
