This slip-to-thread design gives you the best of both joining methods, a permanent solvent-welded bond on the pipe side and a serviceable threaded connection on the outlet side that unscrews for future maintenance. It is especially useful for tapping a 3/4" threaded device, such as a gauge, drain valve, or sensor, off a larger 1-1/2" header in water-treatment plumbing without resorting to multiple stacked adapters that add joints and bulk. To install, prime and cement the slip socket onto clean, square-cut, deburred 1-1/2" pipe, then wrap PTFE tape or apply sealant to the male threads of your 3/4" component before threading it into the FIPT outlet.
