The value of the Purdue ISF work is that it treats Indiana as a whole system rather than a single accident site, cataloguing the plating shops, chemical manufacturers, and airfield fire-training grounds that plausibly release these compounds and laying groundwork for the targeted sampling that follows. Those national numbers, made final in 2024, hold PFOA and PFOS to 4 parts per trillion (ppt) each and hold PFNA, PFHxS, and GenX (HFPO-DA) to 10 ppt each.
