Filter Ag is a lightweight granular filtration media used in backwashing filter tanks to clear suspended solids and turbidity from household water, packaged here as a one cubic foot box in a UPS-friendly pack. As water travels down through the bed, the irregular structure of the media catches fine particles and holds them, while the water continues on clearer than it arrived. Because the media is comparatively light, it lifts and cleans easily during backwash, which is a real practical advantage when it comes to keeping the bed fresh.

When It Is the Right Fix

If your water shows up cloudy, deposits a fine grit in the bottom of a glass, or carries visible particles that clog faucet aerators, showerheads, and appliance screens, a sediment filter charged with this media is a common and effective answer. It sees a lot of use on private wells and on any supply where fine suspended matter is the chief complaint. Charging a new filter, or recharging one whose bed has aged and compacted over the years, restores that clarifying action and takes the strain off the equipment downstream.

Its Place in the System

This media fills a standard filter tank fitted with a control valve, riser tube, and lower distributor, usually seated on a gravel underbed that supports it and spreads the flow. The valve backwashes the media periodically to flush out the trapped sediment and reset the bed for continued service. Positioned early in a treatment train, a sediment filter protects softeners, carbon beds, and other equipment from the abrasive particles that would otherwise wear on them.
