Commercial water treatment by industry
Every business fights a different water problem — scale, chlorine, bacteria, iron or dissolved solids. We size and build the right combination of commercial softeners, reverse osmosis, UV disinfection and filtration for your application, from a single restaurant to a multi-site manufacturer. Below are the setups we deploy most often by industry.
Hotels & Hospitality
The challenge: Scale destroys boilers, laundry machines and ice makers, and hard-water spotting ruins glassware and linens.
The fix: A commercial softener protects every heated appliance; add RO for spot-free ice, coffee and steam.
See commercial softeners →Hospitals & Healthcare
The challenge: Facilities need pathogen control and consistent, high-purity water for sterilization, labs and patient areas.
The fix: UV disinfection inactivates bacteria and viruses; commercial RO delivers the purity clinical equipment demands.
See commercial RO →Restaurants & Cafés
The challenge: Hard water scales dish machines and combi ovens, and chlorine flattens the taste of coffee, tea and soda.
The fix: Softening plus carbon/RO protects equipment and makes every beverage taste the way the chef intends.
See RO systems →Breweries & Beverage
The challenge: Great beer, coffee and bottled water start with a precise, repeatable mineral profile and zero chlorine.
The fix: RO strips the supply to a blank slate so you can build water to spec, batch after batch.
Build brewing water →Dairy, Farms & Agriculture
The challenge: Livestock health, wash-down sanitation and irrigation all suffer from bacteria, iron and hardness in well water.
The fix: UV kills waterborne pathogens, while iron/sulfur filtration and softening keep lines and equipment clean.
See UV disinfection →Manufacturing & Industrial
The challenge: Boiler feed, cooling towers and rinse lines fail early when hardness and dissolved solids are left untreated.
The fix: Softening prevents scale, and commercial RO/DI delivers spot-free rinse and reliable process water.
See treatment filters →Laundries & Car Washes
The challenge: Hard water wastes detergent, dulls fabrics and leaves mineral spots on every finished vehicle.
The fix: A high-flow softener cuts chemical use; an RO polish delivers a true spot-free final rinse.
Size a softener →Schools, Offices & Municipal
The challenge: Public buildings must deliver safe, great-tasting drinking water and address lead, PFAS and taste complaints.
The fix: Point-of-use carbon/RO and UV give staff and students clean, confidence-inspiring water at the tap.

Commercial & industrial water treatment: a buyer’s guide
Commercial water treatment is a different discipline from residential. A home system is sized for a family; a commercial water softener system or commercial reverse osmosis system is sized for a duty cycle — gallons per day, peak gallons per minute, and often round-the-clock operation. Get the sizing right and the equipment runs for a decade; get it wrong and you pay in scale, downtime and failed membranes.
How commercial differs from residential
Two numbers drive every commercial spec: capacity and peak flow. Softeners are rated in grains of hardness removed between regenerations; RO systems in gallons per day (GPD) of permeate. A restaurant that never stops and a plant running three shifts both need equipment that treats water during the busiest minute, not just on average — which usually means larger tanks, higher-flow valves, and twin-alternating designs so one tank regenerates while the other stays online.
Commercial water softeners
Hard water scales boilers, water heaters, dish machines, cooling towers and ice makers — the hidden tax on every hospitality and manufacturing operation. Commercial softeners are sized by total grains (daily hardness × daily gallons) and peak GPM, and are frequently deployed as twin-alternating units for continuous soft water. See our commercial & industrial water softeners and the USA-made Fleck 2900 industrial softener built for high-flow duty.
Commercial reverse osmosis
When you need low-TDS water — for boilers, humidification, rinse water, coffee/espresso, ice, bottling or process lines — commercial RO is the answer. Systems are specified in GPD and built from multiple 4"×40" membranes with a stainless high-pressure pump and automated controls. Smaller operations can buy off-the-shelf light commercial RO systems (350–1,400 GPD) directly, while larger plants are engineered to order — see the industrial reverse osmosis system or the full commercial reverse osmosis range.
Commercial UV disinfection
Hospitals, dairies, breweries and any facility on well water need a microbial barrier that filtration cannot provide. High-flow multi-lamp UV inactivates bacteria and viruses without chemicals — see our UV water treatment guide for how dose and flow rate determine sizing at commercial scale.
Filtration & pre-treatment
Membranes and softener resin last only as long as the water reaching them is clean. Commercial trains add sediment, carbon and iron/sulfur pre-treatment ahead of the main system. Browse commercial water treatment parts & filters for cartridges, media and housings that keep the whole line healthy.
Buy direct or request a quote?
Light-commercial softeners and RO systems are buyable online with free U.S. shipping. Larger systems — high-GPD RO, twin-alternating softeners, skid-mounted plants — are quoted because they are sized to your exact water report and flow. Either way the equipment is genuine, USA-made where noted, and backed by real parts availability — not a sealed appliance you throw away.
How to get sized correctly
Send us three things and we will spec the exact system, price and lead time: your daily volume (GPD or GPM), your peak demand, and a recent water test (hardness, TDS, iron, pH). That is all it takes to move from guesswork to an engineered solution.
