Iron & Hardness Well System — Air-Injection (Chemical-Free)

The problem
Well water with moderate iron (up to ~10 ppm) and hardness causes rusty orange stains on plumbing fixtures, laundry, and dishware. This staining is not only unsightly but also leads to increased cleaning time and effort.
Hard water contributes to soap scum buildup, dull laundry, and dry skin and hair. It also shortens the lifespan of water-using appliances like water heaters, washers, and dishwashers by causing scale buildup.
These water quality issues impact daily living comfort, appearance, and long-term household expenses, making effective water treatment vital for homes on well water.
How it works — the air-injection oxidation
The system starts with a chemical-free air-injection iron filter, which creates an air pocket inside the tank to oxidize dissolved iron and manganese, converting them into particles that can be trapped and filtered out. This process requires no chemical additives or refills, providing a low-maintenance solution.
Next, the water flows through a Fleck 5600SXT metered water softener that removes hardness minerals via ion exchange, using a genuine Fleck valve and including a brine tank and bypass valve for easy maintenance and regeneration. The softener regenerates automatically based on water usage, ensuring efficient operation with minimal user input.
Finally, the treated water passes through an under-sink reverse osmosis (RO) system, delivering bottled-quality drinking water directly at the kitchen tap by removing any residual impurities for safe, clean consumption.

Frequently asked questions
How does the air-injection iron filter work without chemicals?
It uses an air pocket inside the filter tank to oxidize dissolved iron and manganese, converting them into solid particles that are trapped by the filter media. This process requires no chemical additives or refills.
What maintenance is required for the system?
The iron filter operates chemical-free with minimal upkeep. The water softener regenerates automatically based on water usage and requires periodic salt refills. The under-sink RO system will need filter replacements as specified in its guidelines.
Can this system handle well water with up to 10 ppm iron?
Yes, the system is designed to effectively remove iron concentrations up to approximately 10 ppm, making it suitable for moderate iron levels commonly found in well water.
Is the system suitable for whole-house treatment?
Yes, the system treats all incoming water through the air-injection filter and softener for whole-house use, with the RO system providing purified drinking water at the kitchen tap.
What comes included with the system?
Each stage includes a complete tank with control head, bypass valve, fittings, water test strip, install guide, video, and free expert sizing to ensure the system fits your household needs.
Does the system require a pressure tank?
Most well systems already have a pressure tank, which is not included. You can add one if needed using the System Builder options.
