Premium coconut-shell activated carbon media for whole-house or backwashing carbon filters. Reduces chlorine, chloramine, taste, odor and organic compounds (VOCs). This is carbon filtration media — NOT an ion-exchange softener resin and does not remove hardness.
Coconut Shell Carbon in a Half-Cubic-Foot Box
Jacobi AquaSorb 1240CS is a premium coconut shell activated carbon, supplied here in a half cubic foot box that is convenient for smaller tanks and partial recharges. Coconut shell is a favored source for filtration carbon because activating it produces a dense web of fine pores, and it is that vast internal surface area that captures contaminants. As water moves slowly through the bed, chlorine and dissolved organic compounds adsorb onto the carbon and stay there, so the water flowing out tastes fresher and carries far less odor than the water that went in.
The Difference You Will Notice
Carbon media is the standard answer for water that is perfectly safe but simply unpleasant. A chlorine taste like a swimming pool, a musty or earthy smell, or a general flatness in the water all respond well to a carbon bed. Coconut shell carbon is hard and manufactured to be low in dust, which means it stands up to repeated backwashing without crumbling quickly, and it produces cleaner startup rinses. Those qualities make it a reliable workhorse for improving the taste and smell of everyday household water.
Working It Into the Tank
This carbon fills a backwashing filter tank equipped with a control valve, riser tube, and lower distributor, generally over a gravel support layer. The control valve backwashes the bed periodically, lifting and rinsing the carbon to keep it open and effective for continued service. The half cubic foot box is a practical amount for a smaller tank or for refreshing a bed that has settled over time. When the taste or odor you were controlling starts to come back, that is the carbon signaling it is ready to be renewed.
Plan the Fill With Us
How much carbon a tank calls for depends on its size and how the bed is layered, so it is worth confirming before you order. Share your tank dimensions and the issues you want to address, and we will help you choose the media and the right quantity. We include the documentation we have on file, and the Water Softener Plus team is glad to walk you through loading the carbon, setting the backwash, and getting the system rinsed and ready to serve.
